About me

I have been a preceptor (a postdoctorate teaching appointment) here since July of 2003. My research interests include hamiltonian group actions on manifolds, differential geometry, Lie theory, and equivariant cohomology. I teach in Harvard College, the Extension School, and the summer school.
As a preceptor, I do a lot of the coordinating for the service-level math courses we teach, such as calculus and linear algebra. I also assist with the training of graduate student teaching fellows, advise undergraduates on course selection, work on the placement process, and lots of other random math department jobs. I’m trying to start some mathematics education research into the pedagogical development of our graduate student teaching fellows.
Outside of math, I have a fair amount of computing experience. I program in PHP, some Perl and Python. I also consult on projects typeset in TeX and LaTeX. The semantic web fascinates me, but so far I have made no progress on a LOM syntax for LaTeX.
Otherwise, I enjoy music, cooking, reading, and golf when I get a chance. I’m married and we have two of the cutest kids you ever did see.
